Sports & Community Groups

Sports and community groups are important in rural New Zealand with the Hauraki Plains having many options for people to expand their horizons, meet people within the community and have plenty of fun.

The Hugh Hayward Domain in Ngatea is a sporting and recreational hub for the Plains, used for rugby, football, athletics, cricket, netball, league, touch and hockey. The domain also boasts the only Astroturf playing surface in the greater Coromandel and Thames Valley area. There are a number of strong rugby and netball clubs across Hauraki Plains and we have a very active rowing club.

Get involved with the Ngatea Lions or Lioness clubs, Probus, Care & Friendship, music groups, church groups, hunting and fishing groups, young farmers, scouts clubs and many more in between.

You can find out more about the individual groups operating across the Hauraki Plains communities throughout the Be Local section of our website.
